BIO

Mickey Vershbow has taught hundreds of students over the last eight years, working with various schools around the northeast such as Jammin' With You! and BANG The Drum School! before opening her own lesson studio in Brooklyn, NY. While highly experienced with students of all ages, backgrounds, skill levels, and areas of interest, Mickey specializes in teaching women and gender non-conforming students who seek a supportive, safe, and non-competitive environment where they can learn to play drums and empower themselves to master an instrument that they've not previously had the resources to explore.

Mickey got her start as a teacher after studying drum-set performance at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Having previously studied Music Therapy at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA, she began teaching private lessons as a way to explore the therapeutic potentials of music in a way that was based on her own experience of personal growth through musical discipline. She moved to Brooklyn in 2012, where she began working with Tom Tom Magazine, the world's only magazine dedicated to female drummers. Since then she's been focused on providing resources for anyone who wants to play drums, inspiring students to develop their voice on the instrument, maintain a disciplined practice, and break onto the scene as performers.

In addition to her work as a teacher, Mickey is also a busy live and studio session drummer. She's currently playing for DAMS OF THE WEST (Chris Tomson of Vampire Weekend); MIRAH (K Records, Kill Rock Stars), KAT CUNNING (Company XIV, Cirque Du Soleil), and BOYTOY (Papercup Music). She also fronts the improvisation-based project ANMLPLNET with Leah Wellbaum (Slothrust), which will be releasing their debut EP on Ba Da Bing Records in the fall of 2017.
