About Mickey

BIO

Mickey Vershbow has taught thousands of students over the last 15 years, working with various schools around the northeast such as Jammin' With You! and BANG The Drum School! before opening her own lesson studio in Brooklyn, NY. She is now rooted in Portland, OR where she day-lights as a software engineer and enjoys experimental improvisation and jamming with fellow musicians. While highly experienced with students of all ages, backgrounds, skill levels, and areas of interest, Mickey specializes in teaching women, queer folks, and neurodivergent students who are seeking a supportive, safe, and non-competitive environment where they can empower themselves to learn an instrument that they've not previously had the resources to explore.

Mickey got her start as a teacher after studying drum-set performance at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Having previously studied Music Therapy at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA, she began teaching private lessons as a way to explore the therapeutic potentials of music in a way that was based on her own experience of personal growth through musical discipline. She moved to Brooklyn in 2012, where she began working with Tom Tom Magazine, the world's only magazine dedicated to female drummers. Since then she's been focused on providing resources for anyone who wants to play drums, inspiring students to develop their voice on the instrument.
